About Winsor Photography:

Hello. My name is Tara Winsor. I am a wife, and a mother to the sweetest little miracle. I love to sleep in, and stay up late. You can often find me up until 2 or 3 in the morning editing images, or creating new things. I love music, and can often be found with headphones in my ears. I enjoy spending time with my family, and do so every chance I get. I hate being alone. I always like to have company. I crochet in the winter when it's cold. I love playing the Wii, and am trying to improve my bowling skills. I love Olive Garden and could eat their salad and breadsticks all day long. I have recently been introduced to specialty cupcakes, and am in love. I love watching "The Office" and "The Amazing Race". I really don't like being cold, at all. But I absolutely ADORE the beach, and would live on one if I could. I am a techno geek, and spend a lot of time trying to figure out, research, and play with the latest electronics. And lastly, I am a photographer. Take a look around at everything, and let me know what you like! Feel free to email me at info@winsorphotography.com or give me a call at 435-770-9367.

    Romance {with.in}

    Monday, February 20th, 2012

This weeks word over at with.in is

    Romance

Who doesn’t like the romantic movies where boy gets girl, and everything seems happy in the world?

My personal favorite is Pride and Prejudice.
I could watch that movie every.single.day.

I’ve been putting a lot of thought onto this word, and what it means to me this last week.
you know…being Valentine’s Day and all.

Here is what Wiki says about Romance:

Romance is the pleasurable feeling of excitement and mystery associated with love.

In the context of romantic love relationships, romance usually implies an expression of one’s love, or one’s deep emotional desires to connect with another person.

Historically, the term “romance” originates with the medieval ideal of chivalry

To me, romance is more than just a kiss, or a feeling, or desire.
It’s being able to KNOW that they love you.

I have been married to my husband for 9 1/2 years now.
He STILL opens the door for me. Not just the door to a building, but to the car. He let’s me into the car, and he gets me out of the car.
Some friends saw him help me out of the car and asked: “Does he always do that for you? Or is he just trying to impress us?”
No, he always does. Even if no one is watching.
    That’s romance to me.

Grabbing my hand in the middle of a crowd so I don’t get lost.
Wrapping his arms around me when I’m doing dishes. Just to tell me how much he appreciates me.
Filling up my water bottle in the morning when he leaves for work, so I can have cold water.
Seeing the look on his face, as I look myself over in the mirror for the hundredth time to make sure I look ok. The look always says “you’re beautiful.”
Driving me places, even though I know he would rather be doing something else.
Setting up back rubs for me when he knows I’ve had a particularly long day.
Putting his hand against the small of my back to let me know that he.is.always.there.
encouraging me to grasp hold of my dreams, and to not let go.
Calling me on EVERY.SINGLE.BREAK he has at work, just to tell me he loves me.

I’ve given him a run for his money.
    I really have.
And yet, he has stuck by me.
    Through E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G.

    That’s Romance to me.
Loving someone so much, that all the little things are important.

I love capturing these little moments in my photography. Engagement Sessions and Weddings are my ABSOLUTE favorite things to photograph. Capturing the little things that speak Romance. Yes, this includes the kisses, the hugs, the looks, the touches. The little things.

    What’s YOUR interpretation of Romance?

    My Story

    Monday, February 13th, 2012

Have you guys heard of with.in?

If not, you need to head over there and get in the know. It looks to be an amazing journey that I can’t WAIT to be a part of.
Every week, they post a word. You are allowed to interpret this word however you want, and then post your definition of the word.

I have to admit it’s hard. I have been thinking about it for 5 days now, wondering what I’m going to write.

    This last weeks word was:

    Sto.ry

I’ve never been a writer. I admit that. I did whatever I had to do to pass English, and not fail it. When I was younger, I wanted to write books. But let’s be honest, my mind wouldn’t let me focus on any one thing long enough to actually write a book. It would have to be more just random thoughts.

I was talking to my mom, who happens to be one of my best friends, about how I was going to write this. Complaining, yet again, that I.CAN’T.WRITE. What she said reminds me why I am taking this journey with these ladies. She told me: “just be you. You may not be a writer, but I love the way you write. That’s why I read your blog. It’s YOU”.  And then I realized that I don’t HAVE to focus so much on the writing. I need to just focus on being me.

Anyway. Back to the subject, and enough about my lack of writing skills.

Story. Everyone has one. I find myself on roadtrips, looking at people in the car next to me, wondering where they are headed. What are they driving to, or what are they driving from? When I think of stories, I think of perspectives. You can have 10 people read the same book, and everyone will come away with something different. As it is with life.

My life story changes with how my perspective is.

3 years ago, my perspective was off.  it was very closed, and very centered. i’ve been able to see this perspective change over the years, and I can see that chapter from a few years ago in a new light.

Have you ever done that? Read a story, and then as your life changed, you read it again, and come away with something different?

    Every.Single.Chapter.Is.Different.

Each one has a different perspective.

I would like to think that I have a better perspective on things now than I have in the past. And I would hope that as I grow and learn, that my perspective will continue to change. I always hope that it will change for the better, but I know that sometimes we need to fall, in order to stand a little taller.

My life, according to some, has been pretty easy. I was raised in an amazing family. I am pretty sure that when I was younger, I yelled at some of my siblings, and said I hated them and that when I grew up, I was never going to talk to them again. I grew up. And they are my best friends. The things that were SO.IMPORTANT.I.CAN’T.LIVE.WITHOUT.AND.WILL.DIE.IF.IT.CHANGES. have changed, and I didn’t die. :) And they aren’t so important to me.

There are some things that are constant in my story, and my perspective has changed on them as well.
    My family.
My parents, my siblings, their spouses and children, my husband and my son.
They are always there for me. Even when I’m a dork, and don’t deserve their love.
My perspective on family has changed as well with my story.
The way I wanted my family to grow, has not been able to happen. I’ve had the wonderful chance to add to my family a different way, and in turn has made my family grow.
But no matter how it grows, it is still my family.

I hope that in this journey, I can find and show you guys a little more about myself. Show you my perspective on things, and show you my story.
And I hope you guys join in on the journey that Tiffany and Vanessa have started.
I will be doing a post like this weekly. :)

Photos taken by my husband, edited by me.

    Taking Photos of Fireworks

    Thursday, June 30th, 2011

It’s that time of year again.

    The 4th of July.
This is my FAVORITE time of year. Seriously. More so than Christmas. :) I love the festivities, the patriotic feeling, the fireworks, parades, the red white and blue, the BBQ’s, the friends, the family.
    LOVE IT.

I have tried a couple of times to take firework photos, and I know that at about this time, I am usually surfing Google trying to find the best way to take them. :) But I thought that I would offer some of my tips, and tricks, and what I plan on doing this year.
Note: All images are SOOC, and not edited at all. Basic EXIF data is at the bottom of the post. :)

    So here we go:

Tip #1: DO NOT position yourself in front of a street lamp (or other obstacle), that is going to show up in ALL OF YOUR PICTURES! I apologize in advance that every image that I am using in this post has that blasted street lamp in it. I could clone it out, but. Eh..  More work, and I would do that if I were making large prints of them. But these are basically just for me. :) And I didn’t really have a choice in where we were sitting. But if you can arrange it, get rid of the distractions.

Tip #2: Bring a Tripod, and a remote (if you have it). Seriously, you will be using long exposures, and don’t want that shake that you will inevitably have if you are trying to hand hold your camera. :) You can use the timer, but then it might be off, and you can just press the button with your finger, but be prepared for a little bit of shake. :)

Tip #3: Use long exposures. Depending on what you want to capture, if you use a fast shutter speed, you aren’t going to get that trail of light. :) I always click the shutter as soon as I hear them explode at the base. Once I know they are shooting up, I start so I can get that trail up, and then the firework. Sometimes that takes half a second, sometimes that takes 1 second. But then I like the trails out from the center of the firework as well.

Tip #4: Use a Wide Angle Lens. You will want to capture most of the firework, and you won’t be able to do that if you are using a 200mm lens. It also depends on where you are sitting, if you are sitting really far away, go ahead and use a zoom lens, but if you are sitting fairly close, you are going to want to capture as much of it as you can, from the ground up. And there is no guarantee how high they will go. :)

Tip #5: Keep your ISO down, and your Aperture up. I like to keep my ISO down about 200 -400, and my Aperture at about 5.6 or higher. This will allow more to be in focus, since you don’t have a guarantee where it’s going to go off! And the ISO down that low, will prevent grain from coming in your picture. Yes, this means you will have to have your shutter open longer, but that’s ok as long as you have a tripod. :)

Tip #6: Set your focus on Manual, and set it to Infinity. This way, you aren’t messing with your camera trying to get it to focus on something with every shot. And you can just focus on shooting.

Tip #7: Play around with different shutter speeds. Start with something like 1/20th of a second and see how it turns out. If it is barely showing up, go longer. If it’s too bright, go shorter. It really is just playing around.

Tip #8: Be Patient. You aren’t going to get the PERFECT shot first time. Especially if you haven’t tried shooting fireworks before! Play around with it, and don’t get frustrated. :) Everything takes practice and work!

Tip #9: HAVE FUN. Make sure to WATCH the fireworks as well! Have fun, and play around! That’s the main part.

*All images on this post were shot on a Nikon D200, 18-55mm lens at about 35mm, ISO400, f5.6, and between 3 and 6 second exposures. *

If this was AT ALL helpful to you. Please let me know. :) And I would LOVE to see what you come up with this weekend!
Feel free to share this post, but please make sure you credit or link to my blog. :)

Please Join Me {Carnival Fundraiser} For Laurie Moss Johnson

    Friday, April 15th, 2011

What are you doing this weekend?

How about a carnival for a good cause?

Join me at the Kaysville Sportsplex on April 16th at 7:30 pm for food, carnival games, basketball, volleyball, a silent auction and more!  This fundraiser is to benefit my friend, Laurie Moss Johnson, who was recently diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.  I haven’t actually met her, but from what I’ve seen, she is an amazing lady! I watched a video of her shaving her head because the chemo treatments were making her lose her hair. She did it with such a positive attitude, and was smiling the whole time.  Truly an AMAZING individual! And I am HONORED to be a part of this Carnival.  If you can’t just come to the Carnival for a great time and donate there!  You can also donate directly by clicking here

That’s right, I’m donating a session or the Silent Auction! So if you’ve wanted a session, and want the payment to go to a good cause, THIS would be it!! Come join us for the fun!!

    little bits of my life

    Friday, February 11th, 2011

I’ve been getting cabin fever lately. Because really, it isn’t that fun to go out in single digit weather to take pictures for fun. :)

My little man has been feeling it to.
    trust.me.

We decided on a bubble bath, that he treated more like a pool. Can’t wait for sunshine and poolside weather. :)

For now, I will try to enjoy my SOAKING wet bathroom, and little snuggles from this guy :)

Enjoy! And do you feel the weather warming up? Ever so slightly? Let’s play :) Message me at winsorphoto@gmail.com

    Sisters {Utah Portrait Photography}

    Monday, February 7th, 2011

    Meet my gorgeous sisters. :)

I hear stories all the time of people putting off having family pictures for one reason or another, and then something happens, and they end up not having those photos of them. EVER.
Being a photographer I want to avoid this AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. I don’t care what I look like, I don’t care that I’m not wearing make up, I don’t care that I don’t like one thing or another about myself. I’M GETTING PICTURES DONE!

So, New Years Day in 9 degree weather, I dragged my sisters out into the cold for a little photoshoot. (Seriously, it was 15 minutes :) ) I WANT pictures of us. I want to be able to look back on us 10 years from now, and have them. If something were to happen to my sisters, I wouldn’t regret not having pictures of them.

SO PLEASE, it doesn’t matter, just get pictures done. Before it’s too late.

Now, off my soap box, here are my sisters and me. I also dragged my brother in law to come out and snap the pictures for us. :) Thank you Brandon :)

Enjoy :) And if you want to book a session with me, email me at info@winsorphotography.com

    Why I am a Photographer

    Friday, January 7th, 2011

So, for the last few days, I’ve had NO motivation whatsoever.
    Like, NONE.

Really, I’ve just not wanted to do anything. I haven’t even really wanted to pick up my camera.
I know, I know, what am I thinking?

The new year started, and I’ve just kind of been wondering what I’m going to do with it. And have been going back and forth on a few things.

But I wanted to inform you of WHY I am a photographer. I get so caught up in the business side of running a photography business, that I’ve kind of forgotten WHY I do it.
So, one of my resolutions this year, is to remember WHY I take photos, WHY I love doing this. And DO it FOR that reason.

So you want to know why I do it?

Because I like creating the same emotion in others that I feel when I look at photos like this.

and tell me, would you not die for lashes like this? Seriously..

    v

This is my little. He’s perfect. He’s a handful. He’s a sweetheart, a ladies man. And he’s mine.
And when I see pictures like this, my heart just about bursts.

and THAT, my friends, is why I am a photographer.

    Enjoy :)

    My Own {Utah Children Photographer}

    Tuesday, November 9th, 2010

I decided to do a little mini photo-shoot of my little today.

It was cold outside, and warm inside.

So, I decided to set up a backdrop, and see what we could get with the light coming in from my front window. The light, might I add, was PERFECT! I decided that my front room is PERFECT for taking indoor photos!

But anyway, I asked Bubba if he wanted pictures taken, he said yes, and picked his clothes to wear. I can’t believe my little is growing up so fast. He looks SO grown up in photos now. :( Makes me sad.

So I took his pictures (seriously, 5 minutes worth, and then he was done) and he melted my heart. :)

So here is a sample of what I took. I am in LOVE with it.

Enjoy, and let me know what you think!
